just picked a 1982 jd 111 with an 11 hp briggs, the guy said he was cutting his lawn and it stopped very suddenly,he thought he seized the motor.the motor wouldn't budge so I got hammer and chunk of wood and got it loosend up,but still very hard to turn. it takes a huge effort to turn the fly wheel and that's by both hands with the plug out.the pistons moving in and out so cant be the connecting rod,or ?  anyway I also have an 8 hp briggs from a 78 craftsman, does any body know if I can swap the 8 hp  for the 11 hp without any problems ? thanks.

If you can turn the engine so the piston is up, pour ATF on top of the piston and leave it sit overnight.

If I was you, I'd make an effort to pull the oil pan off and check your rod.

It sounds like your rod was frozen to the crank.

Don't try to run it like that, you'll risk blowing the rod through the side of the engine.

It seems that you corrected the problem even if accidentally by adding all that oil.  If it was me I would keep a close check on the oil.  It might last for years and serve you well.

I am a different kind of person than you.  I would have spent considerable time searching post until I was sure of the problem.  But then my luck quotient is very low.  I hardly win at the game of chance.
