Brought this home today, don't know much about it.  Neat looking thing, I am going to straighten out the handles and try to get the engine unstuck.  Hopefully get it to run then I don't know what.  I have a question for those in the know, there is a broken part on the side of the block, what is it?  I think it may be for the oil dipstick but don't know.  See pics

    What do you think??

I believe the broken part is [had] just a square head on there to allow a wrench fit the cap. Must be really stuck to break like that when someone tried to remove it.  Makes me think the engine is gonna be real bad inside but may not be the case.

GOOD LUCK with it!   A very neat tractor.  :worshippy1:

I'll scan the parts book for you I have on Toro engines, unless someone has one handy.

I put a Toro engine manual  here http://gardentractor...-engine-manual/     Not sure if it covers the earlier ones or not. What is the tractor number on this one? That tag should be down near the bottom of the handles on a crossbrace. Does yours have any signs of a breather tube near the mag? The first picture below is the cap and the second picture is the air cleaner and the breather tube in the background. I have a second one without the breather tube but it has a cork in the hole that is drill part way up from the bottom and then cross drilled through the side so it serves as a breather and won't let the water in the crankcase.

the engine is a torro engine # 2779 and the tractor is a TA #788.  Thanks for the manual.  I played with a bit last nite, the oil pan has a large crack wich may be my saving grace, at least if any water got in there it would have run rite out.  going to try and remove the engine tonite.

Give a man a  hammer and anvil and see what the can do, planet jr 002.JPG Looks pretty good HUH??  Got a little carried away and straightened a few things I should not have, had to bend it back to get it rite.  Got the oil pan fixed and filled the case with marvel mystery oil, going to leave it that way for awhile then try to get the engine unstuck.

My husband bid on a Planet Jr. like that and let it get away from him.

Great find!
