The Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to the Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together

Very sorry for you loss. Dogs are great friends and family members. Making the right decision can be very difficult, but when it is time it has to be done.

Been there more than once, and reading this has my eyes welling up, and not ashamed to admit it!  You're traveling a tough, rough road Alan.  Hang in there my friend.

Sorry to hear about Remmey and what you had to do.  My in-laws just had to put down their dog yesterday due to diabetes.  It has been a tough year for you.  I sure hope it gets better for you and your family.

So sorry for your loss. Our dogs love us regardless of our shortcomings and are our chosen  fur children. A blessing is that we can do for them in the end what we cannot do for ourselves, and ease them out of pain when necessary. You did the same brave and right  thing that many of the rest of us have done.

This thread is choking me up. I sympathize with your pain. An old TV show The Twilight Zone dealt with death many times. Rod Serling the host and writer had experienced much death, up close, as a 17 year old paratrooper in the Pacific. His Battalion was surrounded by the japs and suffered more than half killed over a ten day period. He did a story that is dedicated to dog lovers. The episode is called  THE HUNT. I highly recommend that you see it. Good Luck, Rick
