Haven't looked at it yet , we just came back from vacation and now all the house/yard work to catch with . I have this one and one with a B&S that has a weak spark to get going too

Today after work I moved the DB into the part of the garage that my tools are in so  I could spend time trying to get it running .As my wife was leaving to meet up with her sisters I told her I was hoping  to get it running , she gave my the "LOOK "  yea right she was thinking . I already tried cleaning and adjusting the points  so the next step was pulling the flywheel to check the key and look at the magnet .Crap both looked good .Are right back to  points again , removed the wires going the the condenser and other to the coil. Brought out the ohm meter , , wasn't making conductivity when the points where  closed.OK get the point file , then  paper to clean , still no good , break out the Brake clean and compressed air to dry ,  that did it   Put it back together and got spark :dancingbanana:, a shot of starting fluid and it  ran  !!   Now tomorrow  I'll need to reset the governor linkage since i moved it .

Glad to hear you're making progress! It's exciting to hear an old engine come back to life.

Funny ,I've always cleaned points the same way  ,  using a flexible point file that I got when I was a teenager , check to make sure they are closing square , then use clean white paper between until the paper didn't show anymore dirt/film .  Make me wonder if the the other DB  with a B&S that doesn't run even after brand new points and condenser  needs  the new points cleaned again ?

Son-Of-Gun !!!  Took the DB with the B&S engine on it apart to check the new points that I had tried before but with no luck  so  with the wires disconnected  no conductivity with the points closed !! Opened them with a screwdriver and a quick shot of break-clean and that did it !!  Can't believe   I had so much problems and that's all that it took to get spark

Dang, that looks cool! Two hooded DBs side by side. They just look like they could take anything a gardener could throw at them!
