I got in the truck to begin a 200 mile drive to help my younger brother, who has a very bad back, assemble a 10' X 14’ garden shed. I started the truck, put it in reverse and noticed that the park assist warning came in saying it was blocked. This happens every time I forget to pull the receiver and ball on the back so I decided to get out and pull the hitch out. Problem was I forgot to put it back into park. Bad mistake. When my left foot hit the ground the door hit my left thigh knocking me down and pinning me between the door and the ground. I tried to get back inside to shut off the truck but could not claw my way out. Since the engine was cold it was on high idle and I was drug out of the driveway, across a busy highway and over about 60’ of mowed grass. The only thing that stopped the truck was a 3’ railroad grade about 125’ from where the truck was parked.
Thankfully instead of being hit by a vehicle or getting my foot under the front tire and run over by my truck to become a candidate for the Darwin Award I only got the Dumbass of the century award presented by my wife who laughed her butt off after she saw me get up only a little bruised and disgruntled
