I got in the truck to begin a 200 mile drive to help my younger brother, who has a very bad back, assemble a 10' X 14’ garden shed.  I started the truck, put it in reverse and noticed that the park assist warning came in saying it was blocked.  This happens every time I forget to pull the receiver and ball on the back so I decided to get out and pull the hitch out.  Problem was I forgot to put it back into park.  Bad mistake.  When my left foot hit the ground the door hit my left thigh knocking me down and pinning me between the door and the ground.  I tried to get back inside to shut off the truck but could not claw my way out.  Since the engine was cold it was on high idle and I was drug out of the driveway, across a busy highway and over about 60’ of mowed grass.  The only thing that stopped the truck was a 3’ railroad grade about 125’ from where the truck was parked.

Thankfully instead of being hit by a vehicle or getting my foot under the front tire and run over by my truck to become a candidate for the Darwin Award I only got the Dumbass of the century award presented by my wife who laughed her butt off after she saw me get up only a little bruised and disgruntled

I'm glad things turned out as good as they did. Seems it's not the big dangers that hurt us, but the little everyday things that we just don't think about that sneak up and bite us in the butt. Take care out there everyone.

But, I'm seriously glad it turned out okay. It sounds just like something I would do.

So glad you are ok.  This actually happened to someone I know.  Not with a truck, but with a tractor.  He had a little 4wd tractor out along the road for sale and he was taking it in for the night.  He was standing beside it and started it, not realizing it was in gear (older tractor when you could still do that).  Well that tractor took him to the edge of the road where it was so soft that the wheels actually began to dig in instead of going across the road (that would have been very bad).  As it spun, he was pinned in such a way that he couldn't reach up to shut it off or get it out of gear and the one wheel was slowly digging a hole in his leg.  Luckily someone came by and stopped and was able to help him.  He was laid up for a while with that but he's fine today.  More embarrassed than anything.  So, you are not alone in this feat my friend.  Heal and enjoy everyday that God gives you.

Oh my goodness Bill!  That sounds like one scary (putting it lightly) event!  Soooooooo glad you're alright.  Well, at least one good thing came from it.....my last few days don't seem so bad now!  :smilewink:   Yep, come close to that same scenario myself.  Just takes a split second of rushing.
