What oil do you use in old 60's/70's gts?
Just wondering because all of mine are in need of oil and I would rather buy a case of one brand and weight.

30wt non detergent for anything that doesn't have a filter. I was told by an old timer that non detergent oil lets microscopic metal particles fall out of suspension and settle to the bottom of the sump instead of circulating through the motor which is what you want if you have no filter. If you have a filter you want a detergent oil as it will hold the particles in suspension where they can be trapped by the filter.

Don't think the brand makes much difference, only personal preference. 30w is the normal, but some engines can use 10w-30. With 10w-30 you have to check the oil more often. Noel

I run rotella 15-30 in my car pickup, tractor and both garden tractors.
I see no reason to keep more than one oil in the garage.
The only thing running special oil is the Stihl weed eater because they double the waranty from 2 yrs to 4 if you use their oil.

30 wt which is harder to find these days. If you want a modern substitute Amsoil makes a synthetic 30w oil.

For about 12 years on a few different golf courses I ran 15W40 AMSoil in everything but 2 cycles.  If it had an oil filter I doubled the oil change due hours but if no filter changed as recommended by the OEM.
