Nice mower! What a great find!! I remember seeing/using mowers like this. They were old but very durable. You could actually have the mower long enough to wear the tread off the tires because the wheels weren't made of plastic!!!

I can't say for sure, but.... on the Wards-Simplicity-Midland connections, If Simplicity was using a Briggs on a certain model, the Wards equivalent would have a Cinton or vice-versa. Also the color schemes were backwards. I think Wards wanted something that looked differrent from the manufacturers products so it would be identified as their own. I would speculate that is the reason behind this mower. It was actually sold through Wards.

The more I think about this, I don't think Wards would have let them have the Bolens tag or the Huski-man on the deck. It may still be a Frankenmower. It would be intersting to know more of the Wards side of the history with the mowers.

Yeah, I'm out of ideas on this one.

 

I'll leave it the way it is until we can find some more info then if need be look for the correct engine.
