I just purchased an older Speedex 1631. I am trying to identify the age of this tractor by the Serial Number or the Frame Number.

Is there a Serial Number Chart somewhere on the internet for Speedex Tractor Models?

If not, how can I identify the year of manufacture for my tractor?

You can also use the tag off of the engine to try and date the machine also if you think the engine is the original.

FYI to other 1631 Speedex owners.

The Speedex 1631 frame has the serial number (stamped) into it just beneath the engine on the flywheel side. On a 1631, the frame serial number is 12 digits in length. The first 4 digits indicate the model number (1631), The second 4 digits indicate the unit number. The third 4 digits indicates the (year and month) the unit was assembled.

This frame serial number has not the same as SPEEDEX NO. on the tag just to the right of the stamped frame number. Not sure if there is any logic built into this number.

If you have a 16 hp Briggs & Stratton, the serial number is stamped onto top of the flywheel shroud. That number is also broken into (3) identifiers. First (6) digits indicate MODEL number, Second group of digits indicate a TYPE number, Third group of digits indicate CODE. The first 4-digits of the CODE indicates the (year & month) the engine was built.

Hope this will help other Speedex owners!
