Just picked up a 1988 JD 430 Diesel today. 60" deck, 20hp Yanmar. 1629 hrs and in great original condition. Mowed about an acre this evening getting used to the hand operated hydro. Pretty tough old tractor and runs like a top. I'll post pics if someone can explain to me how to add pics here.

Welcome to GTTalk. That's a very fine 430 especially if it's original. Obviously a well maintained tractor. Congratulations on owning a very sought after GT

Thanks everyone. I just finished mowing my 4 acres with it. It did wonderful. Not so sure I like the seat but may look at some adjustments on it later this evening.

Getting ready to have Rim Guard put in my tires. It should add 88# per tire. Still looking into a seat fix. The only thing I don't like about the seat is how it jerks forward when I slow down or let off gas a bit. Seat is comfortable enough, but I would like to try something different. Any ideas?

It looks like your 430 has a suspension seat frame. It may need to be rebuilt, if it has play in it. You may be able to use the flat springs, like on a 332.
