We have White Pines on our property. We don't have any lawns, only shrubs and gravel walkways. The needles aren't such a big deal for us. With the soil we have here and all the rocks, spruce trees don't do well here. Most of them end up uprooting and falling over or being killed by a fungus that has been killing off many softwood trees here. The Pines seem to root deeply and are way less likely to come down in a wind storm. Limbs will break off but the trunks seem to be well anchored. In the 18years we have lived here I can see a big change with most of the spruce gone and more Maple and Birch growing up in it's place.
