Well being a PC and tech nerd. I have been into engine recalibration or "tuning" for years now. I use HPtuner. I have tuned quite a few cars and trucks over the years now. Its another one of my hobbies. But anyhow. Today i was thinking how cool it would be to have EFI on my kohler :D

 I just happend to have a wideband that i havent used yet. Its a innovate MTX-L gauge. So i hooked it up and put it in the muffler. My carb was not too far off but this got it right at stoich. It idles and runs like a dream. My topend was way rich. I cant wait to put a load behind the tractor now to check how much it affects the AFR.

motor wasnt running in the pic. Thats why the gauge is maxed.

I have looked at alot of EFI kits that are out now for small engines. So who knows. Maybe i will have the first cub cadet 102 with a nice EFI system. Just thought i would share. I know im a dork :dancingbanana:

Heh, i always figured that for dweebs too but depends on which side of the country your on i gess.


Word of advice, don't bother trying to stick it into the head, mount it into the top of a intake manifold in front of a modified carb (throttle body) or better yet you could mount it centralized on the mouth of the throttle body, essentially a Central Port Injection or Throttle Body Injection.


The EFI must be able to be calibrated to match the engine, this is a system i have always thought of doing to a cast iron Briggs only always wanted a mechanically driven injector instead of a electronic controlled one.

Most guess work is done with a good kit. I have read alot of good things about ecotrons.

I'm surprised that all lawnmowers don't have EFI by now for emissions...

As witnessed by local auction results yesterday, a factory EFI engine holds it's value better than a carbed version. (JD 425 vs JD 445, in comparable condition and hours)
