Woke up this morning, my usual 5:00 AM, and got ready for work, just like always.

Went out for breakfast, and the dog is in, nothing really unusual, it was a bit of a stormy night and he's a chicken about that.

Went out to fill his dish, hang out and putter for a bit, and  and lo and behold the back gate is open. Bad because it s a 6 foot chain link dummy locked from the inside.

Hmm seems about 75 buck worth of empties are gone too. That's happened before, the local natives and homeless get pretty brave.

Go in the garage and it hits me right off. Some things wrong.

I wish they hadn't taken my laptop. There was nothing on it except pictures, and tractor videos, along with all my manuals. It had a brand new terabyte SSHD hybrid drive, which I will miss. It was fully maxed out with ram too. BASTAGES.

Then they discovered the video cams, and took the DVR, ripped it right out of the wall. FARGIN BASTAGES.

Then I notice my digital cam is missing.  GRRR

A dozen non alcoholic beers are gone. Whatever, but why not take the mescal and whiskey , not to mention the real beer in the fridge.

The final kicker was the little green bag.

I spent several hours this morning walking alleys and then driving around to pawn shops and bottle depots looking for the culprits. to no avail. The Ol Lady sez she will do the same for the next few weeks.

Called the cops and reported everything. except the little green bag. Called the insurance company and they told me not to bother.

The wife is feeling guilty for bringing the dog in and leaving the yard defenseless., so she went and bought a new security system. 8 channel DVR with 4 cameras to add to my 3 cams for a nice price.

I'm learning that even a good guard dog isn't good enough around here anymore. Further precautions will have to be taken. Full locks on all gates. 6 foot chain link all around instead of just the back fence, and it looks like I'll be wanting a steel man door on the garage.

Oh , and we are finally looking at a new dog, to keep Jake company, since Sasha passed a year ago Easter

I always loved rottis and sheppards

Sorry to hear of your losses. I guess with the economy booming out there it brings out a lot of lazy people who make their living by stealing what other people work hard for.

I hope they do get caught and taught a lesson.
Either that or they wait just long enough to come back that the new dog has an attitude about intruders.

. . . or peeing in a whiskey bottle and leaving it out where they'll find it. A little green bag with dried horse s**t?

Sorry to hear this I have no sympathy for a thief. I think a barking dog is the best deterrent....not to mention a good shot. Most likely you were watched for the right moment to be robbed. Your safety is important & things can be replaced but what is bothering the most I think is our space has been violated with an enemy. Hope you all recover soon & like you said a little more prevention wouldn't hurt.

Unfortunately, what you should be able to do to protect your property is deemed more illegal than what they just did to you. Have loader and manure pile, will do custom work, lol. Sorry for your loses--- the second dog is a good idea, dog door into the garage coupled with the extra surveillance cameras should help.

Like you we learned our lesson the same way a few years ago.  We keep everything locked up and I keep evidence that there are dogs around.  Also like you we have a Rotti and a Sheppard (But I think Seba has some Coyote in her).  The other day so guy came by selling steaks.  The wife didn't really trust him so she made sure he saw Achilles.

Sorry to hear about your loses and I hope you can recover some if not all of it and get the scum.

Sadly these situations are becoming commonplace everywhere. We have 5 (65-80 lb) dogs and rotate which ones are kenneled where and which ones are free, and some game cameras, and trigger lights in out buildings, this seems to have cut down on the missing tools, cows, and missing parts off farm equipment. One of the neighbors has put in electronic gates and eyes and has six dogs. The other neighbor, the "oldtimer" on the lane has a passel of dogs and he and his wife are always packing these days.

Sorry for your loss, I've been there and I just don't have the vocabulary for the vermin that prey on those of us that work and save...
