I have been told that the Ariens only had a stick on serial number tag. Is that correct as I would like to find out more information on the S 16 H I have.

Just a sticker on the right frame rail. For the S series.

If you could find the engine tag, that could give a little info. Getting the year off the motor could get you a trace on the model number. But the serial is gone.

My Dad's is the same way. An early model, low serial number but the tag is gone. He bought it new in the 70's and still uses it.

I finally had time yesterday to take a look at the decal. It was rolled and when I went to straighten it out it came off. I was able to read the numbers how even and I even scanned the tag to the computer and then saved it on a flash drive. Had thought about stamping the number on the frame and decided that would work but some sort of tag I think would be better so am going to look into a smaller size stamp set.

Now to find a serial number list by year.

001777 I think I remember.

Al, I think you will also need the model number. I think that they had three or four numbers for the S-16. Each newer model would had the latest improvements.

For mine, a 931010, was only made for two years.

Yes the model number was there and a 93 some thing number. I didn't pay much attention as our Massey's are dated by the serial number the model numbers just say which model they are. I sort of thought the S 16H was all one model number.

That number puts you in the first model S-16. Offhand I think it is from the early 70's.
