Found a old Sears mower over the weekend going back and picking it up on Fri. It is a 1965 Sears Heavy Duty. Small mower but has gearboxes on the deck. Looks as though it has been in the barn for 25 or 30 years in very good shape. Looks as though it is complete. I dont have a pic but here a pic. from a ad for this mower from the 60's .. Will post some pictures when I get it home this weekend.. The model number is 917-8400

I have never see one of these in person, but they have shown up here a few times on the forum.
Very cool find, is the grill aluminum on this one?

The hood seems to made of fiberglass or something equal to it. I really dont remember if the grill was aluminum or not I believe so along with the small piece that runs across the top front of hood. It still has the seat cover and there is a pole coming off the deck near grass cute , I think it was there used for a bagger . I got it for $50.00 didnt have my truck with me to bring it home though.

the term "heavy duty" really makes me laugh, when I look at this compared my Suburbans.

Nice project at a great price.  Doesn't get much better than that.  Good luck with it.

Thanks. I get out on the weekends and ride around looking for houses or barns that may look like someone collects any and everything as I do. You would be surprised what you can find stopping and asking if they have any old tractors etc. That's sitting around they want to part with. Also be supprized the people that tell me no and act like im trespassing lol. Go figure....
And yes it is kinda comical them calling this mower a Heavy Duty!
