I found this unit on Craigslist by a seller that was going to be parted out. After talking with the seller I decided this was the unit I was going to bring back to life.

I drove to Nashville and traded this Craftsman 10hp rear engine mower for the 1256, mower deck and partial tiller.

My intention once it was home was to get some good rubber on it and park it out back till spring to start work on it. Well I was layed of in late October and decided with the free time I would go ahead with the project.
First up new rubber on newly painted rims. As you can see it was listing to one side, the fronts held no air and none of the tires matched.

Removed the tires and got to work. New carlise grass masters donated by Previous employer. They didn't fit any equipment he had.

wrong color

The one on the right is the original. I used rustoleum sunrise red at first then swithched to rustoleum farm equipment international red. That was a perfect match.
This has been a slow process with looking for a job and winter setting in. Thats all for now I will continue the saga as time permits.

I've actually gotten pretty far an the project, I will just feed it to the forum sequencially as I get time. The mower deck I got is green, it must not be from this tractor. What do you think. Do I redo the mower deck to original or do I turn it green to match my tractor.

The green Decks were sold with the older models 1964-1969 . If the deck was green originally then thats what I would paint it.

Coming from the doctor what choice do I have. It will be green, of course I have this minor detail of finishing the tractor first.

What color Green would you use?

You can paint it red if you want.... Just figured keep it original.
I do believe some green decks were sold with these tractors as well as the red decks. (Must have had extra)

When I get to the deck I'll post some pics and get some advice on color. I to would rather keep to the proper color scheme for all of the attachments.

This is how my green deck turned out: I had it custom mixed. They started out as a clear base. I used the deck about 4 times to cut the grass.

For the red deck I used regal red rustoleum. I use this deck as my main cutter and so far the paint is holding up great underneath.

If you have a small sample of the original green they can scan it and get an exact match

That will be a nice machine, I never personally owned a hydro tube frame, but have heard great things about them. I love seeing the "oldies" looking new again and outperforming the newer machines... actually it's enjoyable watching someone's jaw drop when you have to complete a job, because their "expensive" tractor couldn't accomplish the task.
