Hi,

First post here.   Is anyone familiar with the "Viking" mowers which are sold as part of the Stihl range?   I don't seem to see a lot of reference to technical information about them, although they're widely sold in the UK and Europe.

I was particularly wondering if the products were sold under a different brand name.  It's helpful to know that when searching for technical information or for spares or diagrams.   For example our Stiga snowblower is also sold as "Murray" in the US (in fact ours is marked as made in the US, so maybe Murray is the original).

Thanks,

Tony S

Welcome to GTTalk. Could you post some pictures of the mowers you are interested in? I haven't seen Stihl branded mowers here in Canada.

It appears that they do not have any presence in the America's. probably why not many here have heard of them.
They have mainly push, a few small riders, tiller/chipper, etc. no GT's

The catalog can be found here: http://www.vikingmow...e-gb/index.html
Interesting how different countries advertise.

Cheers again.   As you say it looks as if this brand isn't sold in the US.   However it remains to be seen whether they are in fact American machines,  both our snowblower (Stiga) and the old mower (Mountfield) are either American machines rebadged or at the very least have a lot of American content such as Briggs & Stratton engines and Tuff Torq transmissions.   Imperial spanner sizes are also a bit of a give away (as is the "Made in USA" sticker on the Stiga)!

I haven't checked out the actual Viking first hand, but will see what I find.  Apparently it was an Austrian make originally before being absorbed into the Stihl family.

30072011843.jpg   1988 VIKING Model (a Wheel Horse 211)

Here was a recent GTTalk thread on the Viking Mowers, under Wheel Horse.

In the late 80's - Wheel Horse did make the Viking Mowers, which were really

an '88 Wheel Horse 211, just painted Green, and Viking decals, otherwise =

identical tractor, were sent to Austria, made & painted here, just one shipment.

Today the Viking tractors are basically Huskavara tractors.  Here's a lot of info:

PS:  There is a small new Wheel Horse still being manufactured over in the Czech Rep only for the EUR market,

saw photos of a pair of them at the TORO headquarters in MN -- looks like a Honda Harmony with a built in and

covered rear bagger, red and with the Wheel Horse name on it. Looks a lot like this R4 in this YouTube video:
