I am new to Bolens tractor world and just got a HT20 tractor this weekend - it needs some work - not running.

I can not find any ID tags on the tractor for serial # - it does the Sundstrand hydro

Of course the upper heat shield on engine is missing so I can't get engine serial number but I think it is a Kohler 532, at least that is what it should be - correct?

I do have a few questions on different issues:

The plastic dash is broken, where the throttle should be, corner completely missing with throttle.

Question - Where can I find one of these?

As I said earlier the upper heat shield is missing.

Question - Where can I find one of those or do I bend a shape one myself?

A PO, at some point has really messed up the carb. I think there should be an adjustment screw on top of the carb but it is missing and the jet / orifice is beat up. If there is supposed to be a plug there someone has tried to screw something into the hole as a plug because there is a very faint sign of threads.

Question - Do you think this carb can be repaired? If not are there replacement units available?

The coil is cracked - actually broken, held in place by hose clamp.

Question - Where to find one?

I can push the tractor with the freewheel valve closed.

Question - Why, what could be wrong, best case / worst case? What should I check first?

I wish now that I had taken some pictures before I started disassembling the tractor. I have removed the hood, seat pan, gas tank / battery tray and some engine tin. I really want to put this machine back together as best as I can. I am really impressed by the way these tractors were built.

Sorry for such a long post, I have so many questions, want to do much more, I'm afraid, than my budget will allow. May have more than I can handle for a beginner.

Thanks in advance

HI, welcome to GTtalk.

The K532 is the right engine for this tractor.

With it having a plastic dash it should make your tractor a 1978 2087-04.  The serial number tag was on the upper heat shield so thats why you cant find it.

The plastic dash is broken, where the throttle should be, corner completely missing with throttle.

Question - Where can I find one of these?

A metal dash from the early tractors with slots will work on these you can find them on ebay of from a sponsor on this forum.   One sponsor has new throttle cables.

As I said earlier the upper heat shield is missing.

Question - Where can I find one of those or do I bend a shape one myself?

Try one of the many bolens sponsers I bet one has a used one.

Same as the last question try one of the many bolens sponsers I bet one has a used one or parts.

The coil is cracked - actually broken, held in place by hose clamp.

Question - Where to find one?

These are the same coil If you look some are only $30 to $40.

THANKS

wilberj for the leads and help identifying the tractor.

bhts, I will be in touch, sure I will be adding items to the list of items needed.

Does anyone have any suggestions about troubleshooting the hydro issue mentioned above?

Thanks again
