I was wondering if anyone has replaced the detent balls in a mf 12g garden tractor transaxle .In third gear it will pop out of gear under load. Is it a big job , and also is there a how to video out there that I can download ? Thanks a lot in advance , this is a real good forumn with a lot of good ideas. bye for now I will try to get on more often.

I have replaced several in JD 110's  and 200 series

after you got a transaxle out, I leave the wheel on one side.

the side that you do not remove the transaxle bolts from the case.

I flip it up on the wheel, so that the axle are vertical - easier to work on

after you got the case apart then you can remove the shifter folks.

then you can remove the folk from the shaft - be careful if you want to reuse the ball

I replace both the spring and ball when I do it

to replace the folk back on the shaft you should remove the c-clip on the shaft because of the bevel on the end of the shaft

that makes it easier to put the shaft back on - because of the spring and ball

you need to push down on the ball to go back on the shaft and replace the c-clip

for me that is the easy part

I have a hard time getting the shafts alined with the case when puttng back together

hope this helps a little

you should get the manual - it will help a lot

it should be in the manual section - transmission manuals for you to download

One of our members did do a write-up on their transmission build from a Massey tractor, but I don't think it got pinned the way it should have been.  I'll look and see if I can find it.
