Don't let the Tecumseh engines scare you. They are great engines. I use a lot of them in my minibikes as they were a common on engine when new.

ok well i did some more searching and found a salvage yard in my area and they do have a deck for the st/16. so i think im gonna get the st/16, its overall better condition than the roper and i need to get this thing mowing asap, so just gotta wait on my pay check. Also on the tractor, i noticed there wasnt a key or even an ignition, just a hole, is there a way to hotwire this thing to start im assuming there is since my friend said it ran but i didnt have much time to really look at it. Also does anyone know the model # for the sears st/16 bc what i didnt realize is the model number i wrote down was for the 3 pt. hitch, not the tractor, and i dont plan on going out there again until i have the cash, but i would like to have the model number, does anyone know it?

That thing came with a 3 point hitch too? Man, some people have all the luck! You got a bargain!

Picked her up last night, going to try to get her running today, haven't really looked at it thoroughly yet but I know I need to change oil, what oil type and capacity? Does this motor have an oil filter?

No oil filter.

I used either 5w30, 10w30 or a lot of my machines get Rotella 15W40

I wanna say it holds about  a quart or maybe 20 ounces. I just ifll and check until it's on upper fill mark.

Do you have the Tecumseh 8-18Hp manual? I think it's the board manuals section, wonderful guide to have. I also have a couple ST16 manuals, but would have to round them up for ya.

or you can check searstractormanuals.com. Find the brand on the left, then go down further and find a model number and download.
