just finished all my wireing so i decided to see if it would at least turn over, i decided to check out the lights and they work as they should. and the selenoid just cliked would that be a bad one. also i usd my test light checked A side on the starter , gen and the light is one does the A side always hot. i rewired the same as on the schematic.  before i get a new solenoid  is there any thing i could  or i could check, i thought it was ok before i started the tear down.  as a rule of thumb it works or it doesnt. would anybody agree.

Most solenoids use the metal mounting bracket as the - connection back to the battery, through the engine block.  If it only has 3 terminals, one to energize the solenoid and 2 big ones to carry the current to the starter, then it needs to be grounded back to the battery - through the chassis or a separate wire.

well i took the solenoid off and cleaned the paint off the brkt. and ran a ground wire hooked up and still just click, click, clicked. so i pulled the one off the other 990 and i get the same thing, at this point iam a little confused, so i took off the other gen/starter then she turned over. i was a happy man. and i thank all of you that helped me . also pulled the other gen apart it had a broken wire at the A pole. thanks gary.
