Hi all; picked up a wheel horse c120 yesterday and while i was there he asked me if i was interested in another tractor he had, thats like asking a 6 year old if he wants some candy, he was high on his price for the c120 but it had a complete rebuild and no hours as his kid somehow got the wiring all wrapped around the steering colum causing an electrical fire, no damage to the tractor, anyways he tells me 5 or so years ago he drops almost 4k restoring this tractor new correct motor, elec clutch, rebuilt rear end,ect i ask him why? his responce was it just got a life of its own, how many times have you thought that? the tractor is a wheel horse 800 special, is this a commando or all on its own? was it only made in 1971? one site said there were less than 100 built and its rare, but people put rare on lots of stuff to get the price up, all in all though it ended up being a good deal as i got both tractors for $600. heres another one that will never see the light of day again once i slip it into the shop, but i have some serious reorganizing to do first. thanks all and any info is welcome

I don't think the 800 is rare, but not sure. There was a commemorative version made for the Indy 500. Maybe that's what is meant.

The thing about WH is that a lot of the models were only made one year as model numbers changed year after year.  I thought I had something too with my Raider 14 as it was only made for one year.  Oh well, still love it.

Wheel Horse never published serial numbers but have recorded 16 serials for the 1-0150. They appear to have been built is 3 batches so far

Batch 1 Serial 761878 - 764030

Batch 2 Serial 773563 - 775737

Batch 3 Serial 785029 - 785580

What is your serial number?

They either built a lot of this model or there are more batches yet to show up. This is from a small sample of about 4500 serials.

Garry
