I have a lot of play in the front wheels. I wonder if they are spaced because they came off another gt?

The wiring appears to be mostly original. There are some ends that will get replaced asap.

Can you tighten the throttle? It won't stay up.

Does something go between the fenders?

I wonder if the 3ph of the Massey? The one on the 990 seems poorly built. It doesn't have very much travel. The upper arm bracket seems low

The steering wheel seems small when driving it. It's also hard to steer.

I believe your should have 3 bolt hubs and wheel on the front. If you adjust the 3 pt links under the foot rests, it will increase the height  of the 3 pt and unless someone has the travel stop set low, it should pick up a good bit, mine did..I think you can tighten the throttle under the dash.

I don't know what else could bolt on the rear fenders, you already have the tool tray that is usually gone.

The two holes above the tray has matching holes on the other fenders. After looking at pictures I saw some of the 990s had the 3 bolt hubs.

Is it hard to get the deck off? It looked complicated lol

The 3pt has alot of room for adjustment both in the length of the pull rods and the top link, the manual gives recommended settings for each attachment,

I use a tiller, 10' plough and a shovel type cultivator with my 960 and it has more than enough travel for each, more so than the Ford LGT series with either the 3pt or the sleeve hitch.

I was thinking about it and I bet my deck level setting its keeping it from moving is full range of motion.

I cant use both the deck and 3pt at the same time, the pins on the pull rods catch on the sissor lift, plus tiller and mower both use the same pto output, that why the deck is very rarely ever on my Columbia... pita. Not really a nice finishing mower anyway because of the way the front is always hanging from the sissor lift, I like a deck with adjustable wheels on all four corners.

I notice that the hooks for your cross chains don't have inner nuts on, these get adjusted once an implement is put on to stop the side sway. A must when using a plow , planter or cultivator. The early 3pt's just fit sloppy in the holes ,the later ones went to the ball joint ends(79 and later) That's why you find a lot of these tractors with the ears busted off the rear , people bump the arm ends against something and they snap from leverage.                                                                                                                                                    As for the rear section of your fenders, the tool box was an option, so kudos for having one , but the holes above were for the tail light panel, as far as I know they were only found on Whites, maybe Columbia but we don't see enough of them around here to verify. The Whites and Columbia's were a higher optioned and priced versions of the 990,

I know it can be a pain not having the 3pt separate from the mower deck , but it gives a good excuse to have a second tractor.

I think one of the first mods ill do is put the 3ph off the massey on this and put it separate from the deck.  I've got a few ideas like this I want to do.  I has access to torch's and welders now so that will make life easier.  Ive got to think about it as I want it to look like it could have been a factory option.  This girls deck goes high enough I could still use the rear grader blade, disc, and drag with the deck on.

I have a lot of play in the front wheels. I wonder if they are spaced because they came off another gt?

There are bushings in the wheels made of plastic and they wear rather quickly. Any end play is taken up with washers inside and out. I use a hairpin to hold the wheels on so it is easy to grease the spindle. New bushing are listed in the FYI file.

3 bolt hubs are from earlier models.

Can you tighten the throttle? It won't stay up.

The throttle lever is worn if it moves by itself. Pull it out of the dash and determine what can be done to tighten it.

Does something go between the fenders?

Nothing more between the fenders. I mounted a winch on a plate mounted across the fenders.

The steering wheel seems small when driving it. It's also hard to steer.

The steering is hard because it needs grease and lubrication. There is a grease point on the gear shaft and on each spindle. Also grease the pinion gear and section gear. Oil the steering rod ends.

Your tractor is about a 1979. You can download the manual from GTT or I posted it here for you.

Attached is a small file with nice to know stuff about the 990, like part numbers and sources.
