Welcome to the forum.  Why do you want to get rid of the old K-series?  Is it toast?

Have you measured the new engine to see if it will fit. The K series had a low crank height in many configurations due to the oil pan extending below the mounting flange. That's pretty much unheard of in newer engines and can cause problems. I guess my answer would be that if you have to cut up the tractor frame or metal to fit it in there then it's not worth it.

I would try and stick with the older kohler k series I really don't see an advantage with these ohv engines. Ive been around them I just don't feel they have the same power as the older motors. Look around to see if you could find one first.

I'd set it in and see. If you have to cut the frame no big deal. I mean it's only a cub lol I'd be more concerned with the classes a 13hp would have to run against16hp one's here.  But a 12.5hp runs in the 12hp class (Same engine)
