Matthias Hanson, a 20yr old from very near me died last Sunday serving in Afganistan. His funeral is today 10 miles from me in our Hodgenville, Ky High School gymnasium due to the huge crowd paying their respects. I know his Dad & step-mom well. He was escorted from airport all the way to his hometown yesterday.
He was a great young man from great family. Due to farm duties I couldn't make the funeral, but in soul I am there. His Dad Lowell used to trim our dairy cow's feet until we built our own tilt table & I took over the trimming. Sure is sad, and there are so many others going to lose their lives. My step-daughter is in basics for the Army Reserves....makes you think.

Makes me sad every time I hear one of our soldiers is killed. May he rest in peace and our prayers are with him and his family.

Hard to loose such a young life. Prayers sent, for Matthias to rest in peace, and that his family may find comfort during this difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, he's in God's hands now, having done a job nobody should be asked too, but the brave volunteer to, in our name

It is so sad to hear of these losses. It is especially painful when you know the family. We lost a soldier in a town about 10 miles from us. I was so saddened when I saw the pictures in the local paper of the funeral procession and the many folks that turned out to say their goodbyes. It was another young man who had touched so many lives, but had theirs ended too soon.
