Hey guys I have a husked tractor that I swapped in a 15.5 hp Kohler in and it was charging great 14-14.5 volts or so now im lucky if I can get 13 running at full throttle and at idle it dooesnt charge at all. This engine has many hours on it but it runs good. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to diagnose this problem. Im thinking its the stator but im not sure all the wires look really good. Is there a way to tell the stator is bad?

Is it a one wire w/diode, or 2 wire stator w/regulator/rectifier?

U ask a good one I really have no clue although I believe it has 2 wires coming out from the shroud...never had it off though so im not sure what is looks like...I can tell u it has a 4 pin connector right above where the oil filter is, one wire travels up to the coil I believe one goes to the Darb and the other two are wrapped together and go up where the stator would be at...from there all wires travel up to key switch and from there they go out to the solenoid... it does have a single 30 amp fuse and that is good...

Can you find your model & serial numbers? If so, you can go to the MTD site & download a manual with diagrams. Post the numbers, then I can download to see what you have.

Kohler 15.5 HP from Craftsman GT4000 (wiring from this tractor too)......Engine Numbers......model: CV15S spec: 41508 serial: 2407610744

It is basically the engine and all its wiring from the craftsman gt 4000...just in the mtd/huskee tractor....
