My brake band pad ( hopefully thats what it's called ) fell out and I am wondering what to use to replace it with. Any ideas, Noel

You want the pad part, not the metal, right?

How big is it?

Old mower blade brake bands come to mind.  Both on push mowers and the ones that stop a pulley on a mower deck.

Good thought. I did not measure it. The pad part is what I am wondering about. It's about an inch wide, by ten inches long to go around the band, and about 1/8 thick. Noel.

What type of material could I use.

I don't know if you do any business with McMaster-Carr but you might look at their product # 6224K341. Available in 1" wide by 12" long for about $4.00. I've never ordered that small a dollar amount from them but you probably could. They are at mcmaster.com.

Sand blast both components and epoxy it back on with a strong epoxy . something like 1 hr stuff. If you can't find that stuff try a hobby shop they will have it.
