I just picked up a jd 110. It only sparks when I let of the key. Whats the problem?

Bob, does this have a flywheel mag or an auto style ignition with the external coil? i'm thinking you have the wrong ignition switch for your application.

It has the auto style ignition with the external coil.

You either have the wrong switch or the contact in the switch is bad in the start position. I just had the same thing on my 4041 Simplicity.

You need to make sure the markings on the back of your switch has an I for ignition instead of an M for magneto. Put a test light on the positive side of the coil while cranking to test for voltage.
