We got this mower for free over the winter. Was told by PO that it had been used for a few years with no air filter, but had not run in a year or so. Oil looks like tar. Blade is in decent shape but needs a good sharpening.  I put fresh gas in the tank and about 1oz of Mechanic In A Bottle and let it set for a few hours. Went out and primed it pulled the cord and it started right up. Would like to find a cover for the filter and what ever it takes to keep the filter on. We plan on giving this mower away to a neighbor who doesn't have one. Would even take a used cover if available. Thanks for any help.

Engine Number is 123K02-0195-E1  02092056.                                                                Roger.

I went to the one shop I figured would have a used one, and he is all closed up, all the mowers gone, place up for sale and no one around. He is about 30 miles away, and the other one I went to doesn't keep old mowers on hand. I didn't want to spend $ 20 for a new one. Thanks guys for your help.

I just checked, Roger.  I have the back side (which you have) but not the front side.

Check your local scrap metal yard.  Dead mowers come in by the dozen this time of year.  One may still have the filter cover.

I have to say I have never seen a cover like that on a briggs.  Looks more like a lawn boy style!

It is a Briggs design, they are actually quite common around here.

Hamman, if the engine is priming and you don't have to pull the backing plate don't.  It can be a real PITA to get it sealed back up to prime.
