my 1960' Swisher Big Mow (if anyone knows anything about them that would be helpful) got a bath when i was forced to repaint it . I learned a valuable lesson today thought   ONLY BOOTS WHEN WELDING ANYTHING burned right thought my shoe and sock ,straight to my foot. hope to finish painting in a few days (not the original color though)

I have a friend that had a slag ball land in his boot and get lodged on top. It made a quarter sized starburst scar.

Mowed with those for years. I see someone replaced the ratchet starter with a recoil. Excellent idea. They are a good mower if you have a small yard as they are Slow! It appears that yours is a single speed. Is that right? Most were two speeds. Slow and slower. You can put a little larger sprocket on the gear box and speed it up some.

Good luck with your project.

i also thought two speeds were more rare than single speeds and yes someone replaced the starter after a few hours of cranking with little effect .I was fortunate to get a two speed this summer I am currently doing a engine rebuild on it hope to have it running by school ends
