When I picked up the Bush Hogs at Burl's house, he had some questions about rotation that I couldn't answer. Maybe you don't know this fact but the Bush Hog Hydrostatic tractors used the same Hydro-Gear unit as the early JD 140 did, but with reversed rotation. My question is, is there a way to switch rotation on these units?

If I remember correctly Daniel has talked about this a few times over the years?? I think this is one of the ones you have to flip the charge pump, not sure if it was determined that the swash plate needed flipping to??

I do know that Daniel will set us in the right direction though :D

if it has a similar transmission to the sundstrand 90 thats in a 318 jd then to change the rotation you have to change the charge pump areound and maybe do a few other things. im trying to figure out what all is required to change the direction for one of my projects.

Got some time to look at the schematics on these units.  It would appear that the housing plate that contains the gyrotor charge pump could be rotated 180* so it could be ran the opposite rotation, but I can't confirm as I've not been into one.  Not nearly as simple to get at the charge pumps on these as with many hydro's though.

Also, on the brassy looking thrust face plate that the pump's cylinder end runs against...they almost always have 2 notches in the plate, for what reason exactly I'm not sure.  But when I reverse direction, I use a dremel or file to make the notches in the opposite ends.

Thanks Daniel, Burl asked me and I had no idea what to tell him.
