Hey Chris....done any tinkering on the JB?

Yup.. Even though I haven't had much time to spare I try and do a little on the weekends when I can break free.

So far I freed up all of the controls as everything was frozen solid. My guess is this sat in the Hull of the Titanic lol.  I would say this thing has sat for a good 25 years!?(in a swamp)

But it is coming along, I ordered all new steering Ball joints (For anyone needing them they are 3/8"-24 thread,RH and LH) I bought new rod (3/16") for the hand controls, I ordered the new rod with 1/4"-28 thread  and joints for the Hydro control.

I also just got the engine gasket set, carb kit and other goodies in the mail this week.

I will be tinkering with the engine later today, I also have to measure what size bushings I need for the spindles in the front.

The 3 point will need the most work. (but I like a challenge) who even owned this LOVE'S using a  cutting torch!!! For everything!! Why drill a nice round hole when you can make an egg shaped saw tooth pattern hole!!!???  :wallbanging: That and everything on it is frozen and or bent.

Daniel do you happen to know what filter I need for the Hydro? ( I haven't researched that yet.)

I am also working on the Allis B110 that I got from Brian, That one I should have running real soon. :dancingbanana:

Well I got a little done today, had to dodge the rain though. Every time I got my tools out and pushed the BH out of the shed it would start to rain again! :wallbanging:  I finally gave up and just worked in the rain.

Anyway here are some pics from today. (I just got home)

I do have the original front rims, I just put my trailer spares on to move it around :D

Also notice the tag on this one still reads Javelina even though the hood says JBII. Someone must have forgot to scrape it off?

With that tag, it may have been during the transition from one model to the other.

It went well considering I only had about 2 hours to play. And yes, that is one HUGE old cast iron 12hp Briggs.

Chris, you can use a WIX 51515 and I also found this in reference to the OE s-1166 filter:

ATTENTION: We recommend using the FRAM PH16 instead. According to FRAM, theFRAM PH16 is a direct cross to the BUSH HOG S-1166 and should work just fine for your application.

With this WARM WEATHER lately Chris, you should have this done in no time! What is this, early Jan with the temps? Such progress has been made thus far! Good for you.

This weather is so... crazy Pete! I was at the gas station yesterday and all of a sudden the girl working the register yells " OMG" I was like "???" She said "The Sun just poked through the clouds!!" :(

Hopefully it will straighten out soon.

Not much of an update, Been very busy (like you).

I did pull the head, and this motor is in bad shape! it looks like a screw or something got into the cylinder at some point and gouged it real bad! So I either sleeve this or buy a different engine?

I am seriously thinking of getting a Wisconsin TFD that is on CL. But I am also looking at a Briggs (same model) that runs great??? Decisions decisions :hitting_self_roller:

I just hope the Hydro isn't in as bad of shape as the engine! Time will tell.

On a positive note, at least I will know everything will be up to par when I am done! :D

Onegood thing is that if the Hydro is bad, they are very easily found as they were used in several different brands of GTs like the early JD 140

The more important question is...what are you doing up at 3am?!? Is that how you find all your deals on CL? and Epay?

I have been working on the JB lately, I got the engine the other day and I stripped it down to the frame today,  I got it cleaned and primed. I primed it so I can see the areas that need attention. I also installed new bushings in the steering arms and replaced the wheel bearings.

Now to order more parts and continue to chip away at it, hopefully a little everyday!
