This is for sale on my local craigslist. It looks like a D4-10 to me and seems to be in decent shape. I think the price is slightly high though.

I'd say it's a 10. Most common model. Butchered too, the poor thing. $400 in that condition, around here...not happening.

Out of curiosity what's butchered on it? I only see a few minor parts missing or taken off and it's been repainted.

Tail light, steering wheel center cap, seat cushion, deck pulley shields, and appears the engine cylinder fin tin are gone as well, as that light on the fender isn't OE.  PTO clutch has been replaced with a Cub Cadet clutch of that era.  The only thing I've seen done is the hole drilled for that fender light.  That is no paint job though....lowered it's value extremely as far as I'm concerned.

I believe this is one that was posted on a facebook group, asking for a value, because he did not know.He was told anywhere from 250 to 300

That price is more realistic.

I learn so much from you guys when it comes to these. Rare as can be here...every Hog I see I drool over. This is the classic look that appeals to me, but I have never had the confidence to buy anything Ive seen. Good thing I suppose.

Yes the d-series tractors came standard with rear pto's for most of the year models. The V series did not have one. In 70-71 the rear pto became an option.

My grandfather has a D4-12 it has been sitting completely restored for years, he gave up on it a long time ago because the transaxle is no good. Does anyone on here know where I could get one and also if there is any other kind that can go in it?

Ty, Welcome to GTtalk. There are parts out there for these, Scott, member "sacsr" might be able to help you out. I may have one for parts also. If you can get us some pictures and serial number, we would really appreciate it.
