Sorry to hear that, I have a friend going thru something not quite as bad, but similar... Seems they are having a hard time getting it to heal for him too.

He's going to need some help adapting to the above the knee thing. My Grandpa almost had to have that, but they took him to another wound care facility and they were able to save the knee. If you feel there is any value in a second opinion, be sure to do it before the surgery.

Continued prayers for healing and recovery. Both physical and mental.

My prayers go out to your FIL, you and your family, I just know he is going to get through this one also.  It sounds like he has diabetes too? That can make healing slower. Please keep us posted and try to think positive, we are all praying for a good outcome.

He made it through surgery ok and the Dr said that the blood flow looked better in this area. No diabetes, he has PAD (i think thats what its called) basically clogged arteries in the lower leg and foot. The stuff broke loose about 5 years ago causing a small stroke. Later that year he went in with severe foot pain, went into surgery the Dr opened up the foot and then closed it because there was nothing he could do. It had progressed too far. He kept the foot 2 years longer than they expected, but the waiting has caused problems.

With his many health issues, trying to get him to another wound care facility was pretty much out. The hospital he is in has allof his med specialist in it and they check on him everyday. This hospital has been his primary care facility for 15+years, so all records and Drs are right there. Another facility may have saved the original amputation site, but they werent ready for the reat of his medical needs.

Thanks again for everyones prayers.

That great news about him getting though the surgery.  Glad he's at a good hospital that cares.  P.A.D. Peripheral Artery Disease That some bad stuff. Did they put in any stints in his legs?    I have 3 stints, 2 in one leg (kissing stints), and one in the other.  Blood clots can get in your brain, lungs, ect.  I will keep praying for your FIL, you and your family. Keep us posted OK

No stints, they went in to bypass some in the foot 4  years ago but it was too bad to even bypass.
