Last fall when I was loading up to head up to Daniel "olcowhand's" plowday, the 4041 decided it didn't want to turn over to start and get loaded on the trailer. So I put it back in the shed and it has set there til now and it's time to start mowing around the shop and warehouse, about 2 1/2 acres. I got it up to the shop and got the engine un-bolted so I could lift it up to check the starter out. The power wire from the solenoid to the key switch was shorting out and not letting the power get thru the switch and back to the starter. I also found the Voltage regulator just lying inside the frame at the base of the engine. I will finish repairing the wiring and mount the regulator on the frame and get it all bolted back up Monday when I get back to work.

Also found a number on the engine and I wonder what it is for, there is no ID tag on this engine.

There is a few pieces of the engine tin missing which I  have rounded up and will put back on the engine before I drop it back in the frame. And also a couple of the muffler to exhaust manifold bolts that need to be replaced.

I also checked on the rear PTO and found that I have everything except the output shaft coming out of the back of the differential.

Brian, with those numbers painted on the engine, and the fact it has a std type alternator instead of the usual "synchrowave"  system most of these tractors came with, I'm inclined to think this is a replacement engine that came off a piece of business equipment where they assigned a number.

Got the engine out and decided it needed a good bath, went to fire up the Pressure washer and it won't start. Rebuilding the Carb on the pressure washer so I can get this engine cleaned up.

Going to fix the manifold bolts while I'm at it.

I've got the engine ready to drop back into the 4041. Here are a few photos of what all I did to it while having it out to repair the broken starter wire.

Old air filter verses new filter element.

IMG_20140327_164331_076.jpg

Old header flanges were warped pretty badly

IMG_20140401_113714_109.jpg

So I Fabed up a couple new ones.

IMG_20140401_113634_497.jpg

I put together both headers on the muffler and bolted the flanges down, got everything lined up and tacked them in place. Once I was happy with them, I welded them out.

IMG_20140401_132157_638.jpg IMG_20140401_132208_696.jpg IMG_20140401_134150_558.jpg IMG_20140401_134209_201.jpg

The manifolds were in pretty rough shape, so I machined them with a disc grinder using a new disc and then flat filing with a large Mill File. Also repaired broken and mis-drilled manifold bolts.

IMG_20140401_113918_668.jpg IMG_20140402_085551_080.jpg IMG_20140401_113912_638.jpg IMG_20140402_085559_538.jpg

Didn't have new gaskets so I made a couple out of exhaust gasket material sheet.

It's almost ready to drop in in these photos, still had some sheet metal to put on it.
