I studied on it for a while and I think the unit is a seed planter of a least two rows. If you look close you can see some kind of a beveled gear on the shaft near the wheel. This looks similar to the drive gears you would find on say a john deere or ih horse planter. Planet jr was big into making multi row units for a lot of different models, some of which were there own tractors others were not.

I also see some other gearing in the frame up behind the unit. I think there was mention here of an onion digger??

I saved it and enlarged it. The gearing in the back looks like it may have augers on the bottom. It may be some kind of a digger. Looks like it is powered from the wheels. There is gearing around the wheels too. There is some kind of a control up under the engine. It's more interesting than the tractor.

Alright everyone, thanks for your help.  I think I'm going to see if I can go for a visit (I'd like to see the machines myself while they're all in one place before they start to disappear).  I'll relay the ballpark price ranges as well.  Finally, I'll see if I can't hook up the current owners with some potential buyers from this site.  No promises (as it's not my stuff), but I will see what I can do.
