I disagree. Always be thinking about what you are doing and why. I went through boot camp at Ft Knox during 'NAM. It was FUBAR and there were problems all the time. I tried my best at everything and pointed out problems to the cadre when I had a solulion. I ended up with a letter of commendation signed by BG Long. That got me called into the COLs office and instant SGT(E5). I kept at it and made SSG a year later. Nine months later I made 2LT.  Do your best. Good Luck, Rick

Guess I should have been more specific.  Mind in nuetral, body in gear refers to PT sessions.  It was the only way I got through 100 push ups, a 10 mile hike, or the like.  Otherwise, boyscout862 is right.
