Congrats Ryan, as a Retired service member I too think you need to make sure they give you what is promised. I was kinda surprised to see they Navy was still recruiting with all the cut back talks. I jumped at the opportunity of "tactical satellite communications" when I signed up to the Army in the 80's. Satellite communications sounded sexy, but the term Tactical wasn't realized till after training and my 2nd assignment (80% of my time was spent in the field, on mountain tops, over seas, living in tents on what you took with you or what was air lifted in.) The Garrison time was spent cleaning, servicing, and packing for the next one. Best time in my life!

Haze gray and underway!  You will go places and see things that your friends back home won't begin to understand.  Enjoy your summer, Ryan.  Boot camp will be here before you know it, and it will be a memory you won't soon forget.   Life and your career are about to start.  Live!  Learn!  Welcome to the Navy!

Good luck happy for you. Like some others said don't let them slide anything buy you.Back in the end of the 80's I worked for the state Army came looking for me they had gotten hold of a test I had taken in school recruiter promised me the world and it was a good deal I may should have taken it but I like to be where I am.They wanted to put me wrenching on helicopters and pushed pretty hard, but win I started nailing them down on were they would send me {ANYWHERE}  I backed up.

Service to one's country is a an admiral vocation.

My son is in Sea Cadets.  Not the same, but does make me think.

I can't add anything to the awesome advice you are getting.

Many wishes for a an exciting and rewarding career.

I had 29 years with the Army. Recruiters are not to be trusted, like any other salesman, get it in writing and stand up for yourself when they try to back off their promises. One other bit of advice I will offer is to get yourself in good physical condition before you go to basic trainning. It will make the first few weeks easier for you. I hope that you have a good time in the Navy. Good Luck, Rick

Ryan, if you don't have a GTtalk hat, you're gonna need one.  I can see that hat hanging for pics in places most of us can never see!

Congrats on your acceptance! You must be a smart guy! :smilewink:

Also thanks for serving this country!

There is a girl in our 4H club, she may miss our Fair this year as she joined the Navy a while back right after she turned 18, but won't be going in until after she finishes the school year.
