Buzz, See-uns as how you are inexperienced with this brand, there is something you will want to really check on a Bolens. If you put the tranny in neutral and the tractor doesn't push or freewheel easily, the tranny is bad and it will be a very expensive rebuild. This could very well be the reason they were in the scrap yard. I'd recommend you just bring them to me. :laughingteeth::laughingteeth::laughingteeth: I'll throw them outback and some day maybe someone would need some parts. Please don't waste time and money on them when I have 100 acres here to store them.

You Bolens experts - Buzz doesn't need any more advise, I'll take care of him and give the tractors a good home!

Somehow I don't think you are truthful in that, but I'll make you a deal, you can have one of them for 500 bucks LOL. Extra for one that runs LOL

Well, I fooled with the Bolens a little today and now have questions!!

The G10 has a "range" selector indicating 2 speed rear end, and the lever/decal support this, as well as traction control knob on the left hub. However it has a Techumseh, and I was told this combo never existed. On the other hand the G12 which should have the 2 speed has no lever or decal to support it, or traction control. But the G12 has good compression and the engine looks as though it will run, oil is good and all. The G10 has no compression, has some oil, but looks like it may run, hard to say. Transmission wise the G12 has a shifter issue (it spins like a crank handle when you go to shift) so it may be ok mechanically if that is fixed. The shifter on the G10 moves, but wont move to any gears (might have moisture froze in there). So I dunno what is going on with these, but the g12 looks better and might work well with some work, but the G10 has the good tranny (if it works) but might the bad engine? I dunno, help me figure out this maze of information.

Since those tractors were at the scrap yard together there is a good chance that the previous person who owned those 2 swapped out tranny's from one to the other....

Thought about that but then the decal would be different??? He would have had to swap engines, but the sheet metal too?????

Are the decals your talking about located on the Transmission plate or the dash up by the steering column?

On the frame is the decals about the transmisson. On that note I pulled the Model and Ser info off the towers and the engines:

G10
Model 1055
Serial 0204126
HH100-115181D
SER-4163E

G12
Model 1255
Serial 0200195
HH120-120199E
SER-6135E

According to a chart the G10 is 1975 and the G12 is 1976, and neither have the right transmission... anyone disagree with this?

That sounds correct.
The Trans mission plate with the decals on it it pretty easy to swap over.
The engines you have listed are correct for their Model and year.
On the ID plate they should read 1055-01 -02 ect. Do yours have any numbers after 1055?

The G12 has the G-10's tranny on it and the G12 Has the G-10's Tranny. Looks like just the transmissions were swapped and not the engines

Not sure, I didn't think there were any other numbers, but I may have missed them.

Yeah they should say something like 1055-01 The last didigit (01) helps verify the year of production.

But by looking at the decals I'm pretty sure those years are correct
