I have the opportunity to buy 1 (or 3). Any idea what their value is? One is supposed to be in good condition with the only exception being it having a bad drive shaft. Seller claims he can get it fixed for less than $50 (not by JD but by a private shop). He says it needs nothing else.

Second mower has a newly rebuilt engine that locked up after running a few minutes. Supposedly the engine had been professionally rebuilt but locked up immediately after being brought home. Otherwise suppose to look decent.

Third machine has no engine but supposedly complete otherwise. I am going to look at them today or tomorrow.

Any idea what they are worth? I don't really want all 3. Anyone interested in one or two if I do get my hands on them?

We would need to see good pictures and where they are. Prices vary around the country. Good Luck, Rick

My first thought was wondering if the shop

that claims to be able to fix the driveshaft for less than $50,

is the same shop that rebuilt the engine that locked up after a few minutes??

I'm always leery of such stories.  If $50 would make an othewise great tractor, well, great....then why the heck doesn't he fix it and sell it as 100% ready to go?  And if the engine in the other was professionally rebuilt, why did the shop not bring it back in?  Unless there's evidence of the guy not putting oil in it, a pro shop stands behind their work.  I call BS.

Tread carefully and examine everything carefully. I don't know what one would go for up here. I've only ever heard of one being up here and that one is not for sale.

Good 400's go for north of a grand around me, they are considerably worth less than a 318 or a 420 due to their '400 only' attachments. If you had a decent 400 and dropped a brand new replacement engine in it, it would be worth the price of the engine in my area.

I also really have issues with the story you're relating to us. Blown engine? Okay. Driveshaft worn out but fixable for $50? Maybe the guy looked at it and decided to heck with it. I would want to call his ds shop and check that price, though.

If the guy could fix it for $50, it should have been fixed. untitled trustno1.png

No, its a different shop. The shops are located in different towns. Supposedly. I am going to look at them today.

No way any shop would do the labor alone for $50, much less the parts needed.

This is what I found. Initially he wanted $2,000 value for all 3 of them. Now he is conceding to $1,200 value. I don't think I am interested. He also has a Jacobsen T422D Zero turn mower he wants to trade for another machine. He didn't seem too interested in letting me hear anything run.

The one on the right of the two sitting in the pasture has the intake uncovered. This is the one that was rebuilt with a few minutes of run time on them. He claimed it has been sitting for a month or so. Negative. Look at the weeds grown up around the tires.

I'd give him scrap value... If he was close!
