For that kinda $ for a 140 I think I could put up with the wrong green for a while, but side by side it is kinda  yuggly, ya might want to cover it with a couple cans yourself until you can do it proper so as to not upset the other units on the team

You could be right, but only if it's the right shade of red!  John Deere did paint some tractors "construction" red!  ~~  Lowell

Played around with the 140 today after work.  I tried to start it, but it would only turn over.  I had a feeling it was a stuck float on the carberator problem.  The gas in the tank smelled pretty old.  I took off the hose from the tank to the carb and let the old gas run out, then put it back on and put fresh gas in the tank.  I backed out the air and gas needles on the carb, cleaned them, and  put them back and set them to 1 1/2 turns out.  I tapped on the carb a few more times (I have seen a stuck float before), then backed off the nut on bottom of bowl.  Nothing happened.   I tapped on the carb a few more times, and then some gas started running out of the bowl. so I know I had freed up the float. I let plenty of gas run thru the carb bowl ( I never took off the bowl, I just took off the nut on the bottom....no telling if the bowl gasket was any good or not so I did not want to break it loose).   Then I screwed the nut back on the bottom of the carb bowl. Then I gave it gas and choke and turned the key.  The old girl fired up!  No smoke, and it runs great too!  That's the good part.  Then I learned the hydro traanny is not working.  The tractor will go backward fine, but will just barely go foward.  The mower deck goes up and down fine tho.  I am hoping the problem is only one of the relief valves....I have a 140 parts tractor with a good tranny if this one is no good.  But, at least now the motor runs !
