Bolens 1000, that tractor is definitely a keeper. Everyone that knows these tractors has never seen one with a vent in the top of the hood. I am going to contact Tom Martyn down in PA and ask him if he has any like it. It would be interesting to find a serial number of one with that type of hood. Mine was missing the tag when I got it.

Does that newly painted white hood have venting fins on the top? It looks like it does :confuse:

I have never seen one with louvers in the hood, someone must have put them in.They CAN be added, they are only stamped in.A lot of custom sheet metal shops have the machine for doing that.

BTW,Jason,nice 900.

I can almost guarentee that they are original to the tractor. I am the third owner, and the tractor was very much unaltered by the original owner except for the paint job. The vents also had original paint on them when I was sanding it down. They really seem like they were meant to be there.

I don't think those louvers in the hood were put in at the Bolens factory. .....I'd be willing to bet they were added by someone later on.

I was going through old treads late last night and this one caught my eye. They looked cool on top but the tread seem to end up in the air as if they were origianal. Thanks for the thoughts.

They used to louver hoods on the street rods back in the 50's so maybe someone tried it out on that hood. It would be nice to find out that those were original to that tractor, limited run or something.

Maybe the heat from the engine helped the driver keep warm in the winter??

Wow would sure like to find out the real story? It's a cool look to a already cool machine. If some did that, he would have worked at a body shop. There for it is possible that he had it painted too.
