My father-in-law came over and hung out today. We got a lot done.

We got these three machines running and riding.

Then I messed with this 728 that I am going to restore. It's not the one in the other pic. I have it all except for a fuel tank .I might need a steering wheel . Two of the three spokes in mine are broken. Over all we had a good day.

Looks like fun! Thanks for the pictures! What brand are those? Are they Simplicitys? I see an "S" on the grill of some of them.

The one closest to the front of my Ford truck is a Simplicity 5010 , next is a Simplicity 728 , and closest is a Gilson 52051A.

Don't know if I am more jealous about the GT's or the fact that there is no snow in the pic....we got 6" monday and are expecting another 6-8" thursday.   And it looks warm there too.  Okay, enough about me complaining about the weather.

Nice group of GT's there.  Always like the older Simplicity's.  Thanks for sharing and have fun with the restore!

It must have been in the 60s here today. We just had 5" of snow a few days ago.

First and foremost I"m jealous you have no snow and dry ground... Sweet looking classic steel.  Did you get them all running?  What does the Gilson have for a motor?

Yeah we got all 3 running and rode them around a bit. I had run all of them before but today was the first time since last summer. The Gilson has a 11 HP Briggs & Stratton vertical shaft .I like messing with the vertical shaft engines. All 3 of these machines as well as the disassembled  Simplicity 728 were rescued from the local scrapyard at different times.

I messed with the disassembled 728 this evening. I had sprayed penetrating oil on the connection where the frame "articulates". It came apart easier than I expected. When checking out the transmission I thought I had a problem. I could not get it into 1st or reverse. Turns out part of the external pivot thing-a-ma- jig was almost seized up. After removing it the actual shift mechanism works fine and I could find all 4 gears.Al the parts to this tractor will be derusted using the electrolysis method. I've used it for 20 years with goo results using my battery charger and regular table salt in the water. I'll post pics as I go.

The 728 restoration is a roller at last.728 as roller closeup.jpg

Back in Feb I thought the project would be a little farther along by now , but other things came up. My 4 year old and 6 year old grandsons have been playing ball and Papa (me) wasn't about to miss a game. The last game is Saturday , so I will have some time to finish this one soon.
