Hi Folks,

Registered so I could pick ye're brains over the coming while.

I've just got myself a MF8 Hydro, saw it in the classifieds and was lucky to get in first.  These are very rare here, First one I've ever seen in the metal.

It has been re-powered with a MAG GS300 engine.  I'd never heard of MAG before now, but it seems they were a swiss motorbike and engine manufacturer and seem to have been taken over by kubota.

I bought it as a non runner.  It needed fresh petrol, the spark plug cleaning and a new starter cord to get it to run.  the throttle linkage was badly done on the repower which compounded my attempts to get it going.

I dont know what I'll do with it yet.  it didnt come with a deck and I'm not sure the vertical belt arrangement will easily suit adapting another modern deck with horizontal belts.

Some pics attached.

:welcome: to GTTalk
I have only heard of a MAG engine once before, one of our members has a MF ELF that he restored and he mentioned its original engine had been a MAG, but since they were out of business for many decades, he went with a Briggs.

The 8H looks nice, glad you were blue to get her. As for modding a deck, it should be doable with a set of pullies to re route the belt. Possibly a rightangle drive mounted underneath even.
Toughest part would be engineering engage and disengage setup.

I got a deck in my barn. Just a little too far for you to come and get. I haven't decided whether to sell it or  put it  back on the mh8. I really only got the mh8 for a cart tractor around the yard.

You have a nice  project there good luck on the restore.

Hi JohnBoy

Welcome to GTT.

Those are a nice lawn tractor. Nice tight turning radius.

Just so happens, I'm in the middle of refurbishing a MF8H right now.

If you need any detail pictures, just ask, and if you've got questions

hopefully we can help too.

Nice to have you aboard.

Will

Welcome. The Mf 7 and 8 are great mowing tractors. Easy to use. What year is it?
If you don't know give us the serial number one of us can find out.
