About 3 hours ago, I was searching for a good free photo editor and found one recommended by one of the PC mags online. I did the direct download and must have missed an ADD-ON, because I also downloaded a program called "MySearchDial" .. It has taken my since then to get my default browser home page back. Not only does this program download onto your computer, but it changes all you default home pages on every browser you have installed on your computer. I had to delete the program from my program files but also remove and reset the home page on FF, Chrome and IE .. I now have less hair and more of a headache, but it's gone.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL!!

PS, Still don't have a good free photo editor!

Brian, Try Gimp They have a version for M$ Windows.  You may have to click on the "view more downloads" link to see the windows version.  It's an opensource project so you will not get the crap as you just did.  The versions towards the top are Linux versions.

I preach to my kids never to do the automatic installation. That's where they often hide that crap.

I think I missed one of the express buttons, there were several to change and un-check. :wallbanging:

Even microsoft updates puts crap in your computer these days, so set the auto-update to prompt you before installing so you can drop the crap they try to shove on you.  Some were hard to un-install too.

Thanks for the heads up. I had no idea, that even MS was allowing hidden crap

in the auto updates. That's just all so wrong. I guess I'm computer naïve.

And the worst of it, is that for those of us, that aren't so

computer savy , it's a darn nightmare. Afraid to try to fix it

because of the fear of messing that up, and losing everything. So we tolerate substandard

performance. :wallbanging:

Why can't we all just hold hands, and sing kumbaya. Nah, that's scary too.

I have a computer whiz that I call every so often to come over and clean both my computers. He is good at what he does and  doesn't charge very  much. If I get a problem program that locks me up he usually comes right over. Guy is nice to have around.
