Well, OB, glad to hear you are venturing for warmer pastures at the moment. Farmer's Almanac is calling for the big one to hit us all east coasters around 1st and 2nd of February. Not sure how far west it will hit as well, but, Florida should be safe that weekend. If you are passing along I-81 between Winchester, VA to Hagertown, MD on your return give me a shout. Would love to meet you and the Mrs.

Stay warm and safe.

We are in Mooresville, NC and parked in the local Wally World parking lot :D :D :D

We didn't travel as far as I would have liked today, but we did spend quite awhile in a Flying J truck stop earlier.

We took the HMS Rainmaker through the truck wash, and there were 5-6 trucks in front of us, so it took awhile. The Rainmaker sorely needed it too. This is what she looked like at the campground this morning.

image.jpg image.jpg

She looks a LOT better now, but since it's getting dark, I'll have to wait until tomorrow morning to take the 'cleaned up' pics.

While we were on the road, we came up behind a guy in an SUV that had stuff strapped to his roof. It truly looked like something from a 3rd world country. It was piled so high, that with the gusting crosswind that we had, it looked like he was in danger of getting turned on his side.

We eased around him, and I said to the wife that it was too bad that the camera was in the overhead storage. Anyway we passed him and continued on.

Not too long after that I told the wife that I was going to stop in the next rest area, to take off my long sleeved shirt as the sun through the windshield was getting down right toasty.

While I was doing that, lo and behold, here came the 3rd world SUV, and it parked right next to us. So, we got pics after all :D :D :D

image.jpg image.jpg

When he got out, I could see that he had the entire inside filled as well. The only open area was the driver's seat.

That's it for today. I'll post pics of the 'cleaned up' Rainmaker in the morning before we trek further to the South and WARM weather.

Wow... How NOT to load a car.
Baby gate on the front above the upside down bench.

Edit: Ryan and I decided his wife said he couldn't do it all in one trip...

Can't believe NC state troopers haven't given that guy a reward for his overloading his suv. If that were me, I'd still be there trying to talk my way out of it. And it would be all HER fault!! :mad2:

Doug, they were there yesterday. They are a shared media file from somewhere else on the site. I'm wondering if they got deleted or something.

Well the HMS Rainmaker just set sail from Uncle Willies Worldwide Command Center for World Junk Domination or UWWCCWJD for short. He is now on his way to Florida.

Don't know what happened to those pics.

Anyway, I re-uploaded them and here are the pics of the 3rd world SUV:

Here's the salt encrusted Rainmaker:

And, here is an 'after the wash' pic I took this morning:

100_4959.JPG

The old girl is shining like a new quarter  :D :D :D

Well now, back to the voyage.

After Willie made the post about maybe stopping up to see me at the Wally World, I decided that since we weren't on a schedule that I'd zip over to his place and visit him. :D

I waited until I was pretty sure that his morning coffee had kicked in before I called him.

He gave me his address, we plugged it into the GPS, and off we went.

It wasn't that far, but after we got close thing took a strange turn.  Actually a LOT of strange turns.

We went down a road a piece, and turned left onto another road.  Then left at the next road, left again, and again, and again!

I swear we must have made 47 left turns and not ONE right turn.  It was like being in a death spiral  :rolling:

Anyhow, we finally arrived, and Willie's worst nightmare happened...a FORD snuck up on him and caught him unawares  :D :D :D

We had a good time talking with him and touring Willie's Wonderland.  Lotsa interesting 'goodies' there.

Young Heath was out and about, and I'm telling you guys...if we could harness  it, that youngin, and the cat's energy combined would supply all the world's energy needs.

Willie and Steph for the tour of the Rainmaker, and after an all to short a time, we had to hit the road.

OH, I almost forgot to mention.  we were talking about fire extinguisher's at one point, and I mentioned that the Forklift had a mount for one on the fender, and that I was going to get one for it after it's refurbed.  At that point, Willie said "I have a bunch of those", and insisted that I take not one but two with me.  He said that he sure wouldn't to see the Forklift get destroyed in a fire if he could help it.

When we left he also told us the quickest way to get back to I-85, and not long after we were heading south.

The rest of the trip was fairly uneventful except the a gusting cross wind that made things interesting at times.  With the tall, flat sides of the Rainmaker, a hefty gust will move it sideways in a hurry.

We got to the FL state line at about 8:00, and I was already 'tasting' the orange juice at the welcome center.

Alas though, when I got there, the building was closed and the sign said that their hours of operation were from 8:00-5:00.  Oh well, I'm sure we will find some nice fresh squeezed OJ in the next day or so, not to mention some of those nice big, tree ripened Navel oranges.

Since it was dark, we plotted course to the nearest Wally World, and we are now docked for the night.

Further adventures to come.

Glad you got there in one piece, glad you got some time at Willie World instead of Wally World, bet it was much more fun.
Stay safe and best get some OJ soon to stave off the scurvy. :rolling:
