Another long awaited update on this project...

Kirk shipped the crank and the rest of the parts I ordered - the package should be here Monday.

So I found my tube of assembly lube and decided to lube up some stuff with it along with 30wt.  I pulled the cam and have decided to replace the .005 shim between the cam and the block.  Not sure where to get those but would guess Brian or Ben can hook me up.

Different clutch installed and adjusted according to the service manual and the behavior is still the same.  Time to check grounds and wiring harness again. :wallbanging:

Ignore the above post as it was for my 120 thread...

The new cam shim is on the way so I can continue with the build.

Did some more work on the k301 today. Lapped the valves, installed the main bearing and crank, and will install the back plate and piston tomorrow. Since someone does not know how to read he had to remove already installed parts to do other work.

I'd fire my mechanic but he needs an excuse to avoid his job. :hitting_self_roller:

Got a fair amount done today in spite of the heat.  (I am glad the previous owner had ceiling fans in place in the garage)

- Bearing plate installed

- Piston and rod back in place (torqued to spec)

- Adjusted valves

- Oil pan on and torqued

-Head bolts cleaned and installed with head then torqued to spec

I did some more stuff and will add that later.

Managed to get a bit more done to the K301 this morning in spite of the 200% humidity of eastern Iowa. Tapped off the parts I wanted to leave bare and give the block a coat of JD Muffler black paint. I used it on my 120 and it handles heat, oil, and other grime without a problem. Following the paint I will add a few more Kirk parts to the engine and go from there.

I know... I probably will paint it since it looks bad next to all of the freshly painted parts.

Bringing this back up - lyall was watching out for me yesterday and I will head west to his place next week.  He has something that will help with this project.   :smilewink:
