Hey Travis,

I may have a lead on a 301 for you. I'll find out more tomorrow. I'll PM you with the details when I get them.

Rodney

Thanks Rodney!  I have a potential lead too but nothing definite.

I just got a k301 out of a '68 140 (without balance gears) for under $41 shipped to my door on eBay.  Someone suggested fixing the block but the bore is out of tolerance and for that kind of money I could not pass it up.  Now to hunt down a crank and get the ball rolling on the Killer Kohler.  Since this is not going to be completed in class I am going to do all kinds of little things to max out performance on this lowly 312 as it gets prepared for snow removal duty.

Perhaps my old cam can get some Kirkengines.com love and receive a regrind.  :smilewink:

Pics from the ad.  Includes valves and cam which sweeten the deal.  One of those cams will get sent away for a regrind.  :smilewink:

Never got a call back on the engine I found.

You got a good deal on the block. Can you regrind your old crankshaft??

K301, K321 and K341 all used the same crankshaft so the will help widen your search.

No worries on the lead you had.  I appreciate you taking the time to look into it.

The old crank is way out of tolerance and needs replaced and I don't expect to have too much problem finding a good used crank that will work.

I think one of these will be added for good measure while the engine is apart.

I've been thinking about adding that to the two 321's that I'll be doing this winter. I haven't got them apart to see if they have the counter balance gears.

If you haven't already read this on crankshaft's, (Brian Miller)  there is a lot of info that will help.

http://gardentractor...com/balance.htm

After doing some reading, I see that the cranks are NOT the same. The 301's are machined differently, but all are the same stroke.

Just payed for a complete NOS Kohler rebuild kit.  Got it from rrmeidel on the forum.  Complete with new crank, rod/piston, governor parts, all gaskets, and about everything including the kitchen sink.
