Ordered this to go along with JD 317 kt-17 air cleaner I am going to use to make a heavy duty air cleaner.  It is a Donaldson h0002040 and while not correct on the HD unit, I like the "big tractor look" that it adds. Deere never offered them on the 300 series but I have always though one would look tough on a 312 with the open sides.

I pulled the trigger on the Kohler/Supertrap muffler I posted earlier in the thread.  The seller dropped the price and I took the bait.

Be interesting to hear what that sounds like

Donaldson H0002040 is here.  I will paint the cap Blitz black to match the rest of the air cleaner assembly.

Here it is installed on the KT-17 air cleaner housing off of a John Deere 317.  The assembly fit right around the neck of the housing like it was intended to be there.

Muffler arrived while I was out of town but a friend made sure it found its way into the house.  I opened it quick before I ran out the door for another busy Sunday and I have to say wow that thing is small.  Probably weighs 1/4 to 1/5 of the muffler the 312 came with.  I think it will be very easy to adapt and cannot wait to hear what it sounds like.  I will measure it and share more pics later today.

In the words of one of my favorite TV shows of the 80's, "I love it when a plan comes together."

Pics of the size for reference.  Here is the scoop on the design of the SuperTrap muffler - each baffle disk reduces the noise but improves scavenging and engine performance.  More disks = more power.  Hmmm...

I thought more discs meant less power?   Been a while since I have been around a Supertrapp muffler.... let us know how it sounds compared to a stock K series with either a pepper pot style muffler,  or a canister like would have been original to a tractor like yours.... and how you like it   .I might have to add a muffler or 2 like that, to my list of goodies to watch out for..... I have 4 tractors at the moment, 3 have single cyl K series engines, and the other one, as you know (and had for a couple of weeks) has a Kohler opposed twin on..... plus my Woods ZTR... which is a Magnum 12, single cyl.... at least 2 of which could use new mufflers.....

From their website... more discs = less restriction and MORE power

A signature feature of SuperTrapp exhaust systems is the diffuser disc technology, created and patented for the XDUSOR, the first motorcycle exhaust product sold by Moller in 1971. This technology allows the rider to adapt their bike, or ATV, to a specific riding environment. This is accomplished through a series of discs with a precisely aligned diameter that form the exhaust outlet. By adding or subtracting discs, the rider can tune the powerband and sound of their machine in just a few minutes with basic hand tools.

Removing discs decreases the exhaust opening and increases backpressure. This effectively decreases the powerband to create more low-end torque. It also decreases exhaust tone and enriches carburetion.

Adding discs increases the exhaust outlet and decreases back pressure. This widens the powerband at the top end. It also increases exhaust tone and leans out carburetion.

All SuperTrapp systems come with installation instructions that indicate the recommended number of discs for each application.

I have been watching 2 of them and pulled the trigger on this one when the price dropped and it was still steep.  I know the truths of the other half myself...

Temps are making garage time unavoidable.  Started the H-2 conversion and installing the rear hydraulic ports.  The H-2 valve is not the exact bolt-in that I was expecting.  It looks like the hole on the frame was misdrilled so I am trying to figure out the best way to drill the new hold in the limited space.  The rear hydraulics are plug-n-play so I will figure out the details when the H-2 valve is secured in place.
