If memory serves me correctly straight cut gears are noisier than helical cut gears. My 214 & 216 have the same tranny and each has a sound of their own.

Pigsitter your memory is right on the money, straight cut gears are noisier then helical gears, that due to the way they mesh and unmesh when turning.

They are also the cheapest gear to make which is probaly why they are used in GTs.But they do the job.

Well, I took it out again tonight, and it still whines like a cranky old lady. It may have been a bit quieter with a fresh belly full of 90 weight

However, I think I may have a spun bearing. I didn't hear it specifically tonight, but I did on Tuesday.

Sound like a bearing on the reverse gear shaft. I'll keep a listen out for it, if I hear it again, I'll have to tear the old girl down,
