The Sprints used Gutbrod,Kiekhaefer,JLO & Kohler Engines

The sprints were made 1969-1971 (According to my Sprint literature) but heard from Collectors some were made in 72' as well?

All Bolens snowmobile literature seems to stop at 1971

A 1970 340 Sprint should have a JLO L340

Hi guys!  New to the site.  They made the Sprint sleds for the model years 69, 70, 71, 72.  They put Kiekhaefer engines in the 72's in 3 models.  The 71's were all Gutbrods.  The fact on the Gutbrod engines is that they were built exclusively for Bolens to put their name on.

Yours is a 71.  The tell tale difference in 71 and 72 is the handlebars and mostly the rear bumpers and grab handles are chrome on the 72's.  The reason the literature stops is because it's actually dated 1971 when the sleds were being built for the following 72 model year.

1969 they used JLO and Gutbrod.

1970 they used JLO Gutbrod, and Kohler.

I'm a Bolens Sprint collector and buy up all the parts I can.  I get boxes of parts and occasionally run into what I believe to be tractor parts mixed in.  Does anyone have parts books where if I gave you part numbers you could see what they're for??

Not that exact engine although some parts between engines were interchangeable. I believe there is a guy that is selling parts for that engine but I can't remember where I saw it at the moment. I can find it again and I'll let you know.

What parts do you need?

I'll go get a better look at it again and make a list I had to move it to the back of the barn after my dad hit a stump with his polaris 440 indy. He bent a bunch of stuff on it and went for a ride himself we stoped working on the sprint and been fixing his sled.

About time we got some one that knows more about these sprints Brian/bolens 1000 and I dont know as much as wish we did about them hope we can learn something.

No I did not attend. They have events for the Diablo collectors too but I kinda separate myself from them and try to bring as much attention to the Sprint snowmobiles as I can because no one seems to have much interest in them. So I'm trying to save em all! Haha. A diablo and a hus-ski are on the bucket list though.

OK I found the guy I was telling you about. There is an ad on Craigslist in the Appleton-Oshkosh section of Wisconsin.  He is in Waupaca which is west of Green Bay.  Not sure where you are in Michigan but at least hes not too far.

You have to type in Bolens Snowmobile to find it.  Not Bolens Sprint.  There is no phone #.  He just says email for pics and prices.  It is pretty rare that there are parts like this for sale out there.  Usually junk sleds.  Alot of times when the Sprint stuff comes up for sale it sits out there for quite a while.  You might be in luck!

1972 Sprint model 83295.  This is my girlfriends pride and joy and the gem of our collection.  The 340 would be the same chassis but bigger engine.  Stainless steel skis were on the 71 race sleds so this is technically not the correct skis but who will argue.

And I just realized I have to get some more pictures loaded in my picture trail account.  More to follow these.

The 295 on the left.  The 2 on the right are the same 1972 model 83293.  Almost the same engine as the 295 model and about a foot shorter and referred to as the mini sprint.  If you look closely there are a total of 3 minis between the 2 pics.  The center ones are different from each other not that it matters.

Hi i'm the guy in waupaca with the bolens engine for parts. I  have a 71 Bolens 340 The engine in mine had some bad bearings in it but If you need motor parts except for the exhaust I would be willing to negotiate.
